The Department of Meteorology says that there is a possibility that the low-pressure area near the island will move towards the northwest and gradually move towards the Tamil Nadu area near the northern coast of Sri Lanka.
Due to this, the department states that the rain situation in the North, North Central and North West provinces and Trincomalee district is expected to continue.
There is a possibility of rain or thundershowers at times in the North, North Central and North West provinces and Trincomalee district and there is a possibility of heavy rains of more than 100 mm in some places.
Rain or thundershowers may occur in the rest of the island in the evening or at night and some places may experience heavy rains of more than 50 mm.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
