According to the Department of Meteorology, the disturbance in the lower atmosphere in the southeast of Sri Lanka has now developed into a low-pressure zone.

As it may develop further in the next 24 hours, the department stated that an increase in rain conditions is expected in many parts of the island.

There is a possibility of occasional rain or thundershowers in Eastern, Uva, North and North Central provinces and the Matale district.

Rain or thunder may occur in the rest of the island during the evening or at night, and some places in the North, North Central, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces may experience heavy rains of more than 100 mm.

The Department of Meteorology urges the people to take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
