According to the Department of Meteorology, there is a favourable atmospheric condition for the occurrence of thunderstorms in the evening in the Eastern, Central, North-Central and Northern Provinces today (09).
The department mentioned that rain or thundershowers may occur in the Eastern, Uva, Central, Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Kurunegala district during the evening or at night.
Some places may receive more than 75 mm of rain and some rains may occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and Puttalam district.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
