The Department of Meteorology says that the depression in the South West Bay of the Bengal sea area has entered the island from the east coast and is moving through Sri Lanka.
Due to this, the sky will remain cloudy in most parts of the island and there may be occasional rain or thundershowers in the northern, north-central and eastern provinces and rain or thundershowers may occur in the rest of the island in the evening or at night.
In Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva Provinces and Puttalam District, there is a possibility of heavy rains of more than 100 mm in some places.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
