The Chinese government has agreed to provide 10.6 million litres of fuel for agriculture and fisheries in Sri Lanka.
This donation has been made at the request of the Chinese government by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and 7.5 million litres of the fuel is to be given for agricultural purposes.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera stated that although this stock of fuel is to be delivered to Sri Lanka by December of this year, it is not possible to provide it to the farmers for harvesting paddy fields, but they will take steps to provide the fuel to the farmers at the time of harvesting.
The Minister further mentioned that arrangements have been made to provide this fuel stock which is given as a donation by the Chinese government to the country’s farmers free of charge.
