The Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) advised the officials of the Ministry of Finance to report the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department as the incident of bringing one hundred and two spoiled fish containers into the country is a criminal offence.

The chairman said that it appears that the customs officials have been working very diligently to bring the containers to Sri Lanka and stated that the same interest should be there for other activities as well.

Mr. WPC Wickramaratne, Chief Auditor, who spoke at this, said that it is questionable to decide to land this stock of fish in Sri Lanka when it has been stated that the importation of small fishes that are rotten, smelly and cause diseases, grains and other things are prohibited.

It was also mentioned here that the main business of the company that took this stock of fish to make fertilizer is the production of salmon.
