For the first time in eight months, Sri Lanka’s tea sector has reached a key milestone as exports surpass 20 million kilos in a single month.
According to figures from the Sri Lanka Tea Board, tea exports in May were 20.55 million kilograms, a significant rise from the 16.16 million kilos exported in April.
Nevertheless, despite this recent expansion, total tea exports from January and May 2023 fell by around 10.7% compared to the same period the previous year, totalling 90.80 million kilograms as opposed to 101.72 million kilograms.
