The National STD/AIDS Control Programme reported that some Sri Lankan schoolchildren and university students have sexually transmitted diseases.
According to Dr Rasanjali Hettiarachchi, Director of the National STD/AIDS Control Programme, there has been a rise in the number of young people in Sri Lanka who are HIV/AIDS positive.
She claimed that children between the ages of 18 and 30 are becoming more infected.
Hettiarachchi indicated that this year’s infection rate has increased significantly as compared to 2021.
Growth in the number of young people visiting spas is one of the factors cited for the increase.
Schoolchildren and university students were among those affected by sexually transmitted diseases, according to the STD/AIDS Control Programme.
Young men are more likely than young women to be afflicted with STDs, according to Hettiarachchi, however, some young women have also been identified as carriers. (Colombo Gazette)
