The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) states that the total value of foreign remittances received from migrant workers in May 2026 was reported at USD 847 million.

The figure marks a significant increase compared to the USD 641.7 million received in May 2025, reflecting a year-on-year rise of USD 205.3 million

The report further states that total worker remittances received between January and May 2026 amounted to USD 3.90 billion

This represents a notable 26% increase compared to the corresponding period last year, underscoring the continued importance of foreign employment earnings in strengthening Sri Lanka’s foreign exchange inflows.
