The ongoing dry weather conditions have led to disruptions in continuous water supply in several regions of Sri Lanka.
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has announced that some areas may experience water supply interruptions during morning and evening hours. Additionally, other regions may receive water at reduced pressure.
The NWSDB attributes these disruptions to increased water consumption due to the dry weather.
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has urged the public to use water sparingly and responsibly during this period.
Despite the current challenges, the NWSDB has not yet decided to implement planned water cuts. However, they advise the public to store water as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has issued a heatwave warning, indicating that temperatures in several provinces have reached levels that require public attention.
The warning applies to the Northern, North Central, North Western, Western, and Southern provinces, as well as certain areas in the Ratnapura district. The heat index, which measures the temperature felt on the human body, has reached caution levels in these regions.
The Department of Meteorology advises the public to stay hydrated, take breaks in shaded areas, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
Special attention should be given to children, the elderly, and individuals with health conditions.
The highest temperature recorded in the past 24 hours was in Ratnapura, reaching 36.6°C.
