So today we wanted to talk about seven women who were loved and respected in the world and claimed the Nobel Prize.
1. Marie Curie
Who does not know about Marie Curie? So she is the first in this Nobel history to claim a Nobel Prize. Not only that, she is the only person in the world to have received two Nobel Prizes. That was in 1903 and 1911. Not only she, but her husband, elder daughter and husband of younger daughter have all won six Nobel Prizes.
2. Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is the youngest Nobel laureate. That was in 2014. In fact, she raised a strong voice for women’s education in Pakistan. She also fought against the injustice of women by Taliban activists. She was also shot by them five times.
3. Maria Ressa
She is the woman who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021. She shared this award with Dimitri Muratovu. Both of them are two journalists who have done a great mission to protect freedom of speech.
4. Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa, the slum saint who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, is a woman who is loved and respected in the world. She did a lot of prayers for the sick living in India, especially those who were rejected by society like AIDS.
5. Gabriela Mistral
Gabriela Mistral is the poet of the Fear poetry class recommended for O/level English literature. She won this award for literature in 1945. So she is the first Latin American woman to claim this award. Apart from being an author and a poet, she is also a humanitarian and a diplomat.
6. Nadine Gordimer
She is the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1991. So she is a black author who is loved all over the world. Julys People written by her or its Sinhala translation is one of the most popular books loved in the world.
7. Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi, who recently faced a prison sentence, is the former president of Myanmar. She is a Myanmar national who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. She was jailed in April this year on an election bribery case. Her sentence is eleven years. (Lifie)
