Foreign Minister M.U.M. Ali Sabry, PC will travel to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to take part in the forthcoming 29th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting from August 4 to 5, 2022.
The ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) is made up of 27 countries, including Australia, Canada, China, the European Union (EU), India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Russia, the United States, Bangladesh, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste. Ten ASEAN member states are also represented, as are dialogue partners, observers, and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). Since 2007, Sri Lanka has been a participant in the Forum. As ASEAN’s current Chair, Cambodia is hosting the Forum, which has the theme “ASEAN A.C.T: Addressing Challenges Together.”
The ARF offers a forum for members to discuss concerns and brainstorm cooperative measures, as well as critical concerns like the post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery and address global challenges jointly. It is a key platform for consensus-based decision-making and open dialogue in the larger Asia Pacific region. Since the COVID outbreak, this is the first time the Forum has met in person.
On the margins of the Forum, Minister Sabry is anticipated to hold bilateral meetings with a number of peers.
