Regarding the military coup in Niger, foreign media have reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with the military leader of Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta.
The Russian President has indicated that he is ready to intervene in the military coup in Niger and that he will advise Niger’s army chiefs to resolve the crisis in the country peacefully.
West Africa’s Niger and Mali are former French colonies. Mali is one of Niger’s neighbours. Today, the military is in power not only in Niger but also in Mali. President Putin has emphasized that the crisis in Mali also requires peaceful solutions.
Western countries including America and France have accused Russia of being behind military coups in Niger and Mali. There are American and French military bases in Niger. (Reuters)
