President Ranil Wickremesinghe has granted a presidential pardon to a group of prisoners on the occasion of Vesak full moon day. Accordingly, the Prisons Department stated that 988 people including 982 male prisoners and 06 female prisoners who had no criminal offences were released covering all the prisons all over the island.
Apart from that, on the occasion of Poho Day, prisoners in prison have also been given a special opportunity to see visitors and accordingly, it is said that the prisoners have been given the opportunity to see visitors during the two days yesterday and today. The prison department further stated that during these two days, they have been given the opportunity to provide the food parcels and sweets brought by the relatives of the detainees in such a way that it is enough for only one person.
