The President’s office has informed the governors of four provinces to resign. Accordingly, the governors of Eastern, Northern, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces have been notified to resign. A senior spokesperson of the President’s office said that when a president resigns and a new president is appointed, it is a normal tradition for governors to resign and it is similar to the abolition of the Cabinet of Ministers when the prime minister resigns.

But since the governors did not resign in accordance with the above tradition after the current President Ranil Wickramasinghe took office, the President waited for some time for them to resign voluntarily, the spokesperson of the President’s Office stated. After the resignation of the respective governors, the appointment of new governors is to be done after the President’s arrival in Sri Lanka.
