President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed all government institutions to fully abide by the Treasury’s Circular about the cap on spending, according to President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake.
The Ministry Secretaries, Department Heads, Provincial Secretaries, Corporation Presidents, Institutional Boards, and Government-owned Trading Institutions have all received this information from the President’s Secretary.
This action has been made in response to the necessity to reduce government spending in order to help the nation overcome its economic difficulties.
The President has also recommended that the Treasury permission be sought before leasing new buildings for government offices, entering into new leases, suspending current leases until further notice, or extending leases for government-owned vehicles. The President has also instructed government organizations to use electronic communication rather than paper wherever feasible.
The President has also advised placing stringent restrictions on the use of services like as fuel, electricity, and communication facilities in public institutions. He has also said that the public sector should set an example by making as many sacrifices as possible to alleviate poverty in society.
