According to Cabinet Spokesman Minister Kanchana Wijesekara, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa would operate as Finance Minister till a minister is nominated for the position.
Sri Lanka is yet to designate a Finance Minister following the dissolution of the Cabinet on May 9th, 2022. Former Finance Minister Ali Sabry has reportedly declined an invitation to resign as Finance Minister.
Meanwhile, Minister Harin Fernando has stated that he believes the position has been kept vacant for Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha De Silva. MP Harsha De Silva has refused to accept the position, but Minister Harin Fernando has stated that the Parliamentarian should reconsider his decision for the benefit of the country.
