Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has requested at the United Nations Conference in Geneva to provide 8 billion US dollars for the next 3 years to avoid the damage caused by last year’s severe floods in Pakistan.
Officials from 40 countries, including Japan, are participating in this conference to rebuild Pakistan, which was hit by last year’s floods that killed 1,700 people and affected another 33 million.
Also, the United States of America has announced that it will provide 100 million US dollars in humanitarian aid to Pakistan. Accordingly, US State Department spokesman Ned Price has said that the humanitarian aid provided by the US to Pakistan exceeds US$200 million.
Starting the conference, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan needs 16.3 billion US dollars to recover from the damage caused by the floods and it is believed that half of it will be received from the international community. (NDTV)
