The National Transport Commission has agreed to launch a specific program to supervise three-wheelers throughout all provinces.
According to NTC Director General Nilan Mirando, this initiative would be carried out in accordance with the Minister of Transport, Highways, and Mass Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena’s directives.
He stated that the relevant Cabinet memorandum has already been written and sent to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval.
It will then be sent to the Law Drafting Division. He stated that it was recommended in the last budget to establish a National Authority for the Regulation of Three-Wheeled Vehicles.
After receiving clearance, he stated that the Commission would establish the costs associated to three-wheeler regulation, regulation of three-wheelers, counsel and assistance.
Following that, the necessary laws and regulations will be drafted, and the authority to implement them will be delegated to the individual provinces.
He said that this method will be implemented by the nine Provincial Councils and that registration for all three-wheelers should be done through them.
