Ninewells Hospital has marked a major milestone with the groundbreaking of its newest
building expansion, signaling a bold step forward in advancing healthcare in Sri Lanka.
The ceremony, attended by key stakeholders, partners, and management, celebrated the start
of a transformative phase for the hospital. This development reflects Ninewells’ evolution
beyond its strong foundation in women’s and children’s healthcare into a more comprehensive,
future-ready institution.
The new facility will introduce expanded surgical capabilities, enhanced patient care
environments, and state-of-the-art medical infrastructure to meet growing healthcare needs.
Designed with advanced technology and patient comfort in mind, it aims to elevate both clinical
excellence and patient experience.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Vibash Wijeratne, Director and CEO of Ninewells Hospital said, “This
groundbreaking represents our vision for the future of healthcare. As we expand into surgical
specialties, our focus remains on delivering compassionate, patient-centered care with the
highest standards.”
Since its inception, Ninewells has been at the forefront of innovation, setting benchmarks in
patient-centered care. This expansion builds on that legacy, strengthening its position as a
trusted provider while opening new possibilities in specialized care.
Once completed, the facility is expected to enhance capacity, improve accessibility, and further
elevate the quality of care for patients across Sri Lanka and beyond.
