The Potuhera police said that a Navy soldier was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a forty-year-old woman who was travelling in a CTB bus that was travelling to Kurunegala on the 15th yesterday.
The arrested 26-year-old suspected soldier is working at a navy base in Trincomalee.
After informing the Potuhera police about the alleged sexual assault on the woman, a police team stopped the bus in the Malpitiya area and arrested the suspected soldier, the police said. According to the statement made to the police by the woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted, the suspect was arrested.
Following the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Kurunegala Division Mr Upul Chandana Abeysinghe, further investigations are being conducted regarding the suspect under the leadership of Advocate Mr Pradeep, the Police Station Commander. (Lankadeepa)
