Due to an epidemic situation, it has been decided to remove the movement restrictions imposed in Vavuniya prison. Accordingly, the Regional Epidemic Unit has informed the Prison Department that daily activities can be carried out as usual from today (08).
As an immediate precautionary measure to reduce the spread of the disease due to one inmate and a prison officer contracting measles in the prison, the prison department took steps to impose movement restrictions within the premises. The Vavuniya Regional Epidemiological Unit has confirmed that there is a suitable condition in the prison as it was supposed to end on the date.
Accordingly, the Department of Prisons further stated that the Regional Epidemiological Unit has informed the Vavniya Prison officials to carry out daily activities as usual from today (08).
