PM Ranil Wickramasinghe has met representatives from the Joint Chambers and explained that the government was targeting US $5 billion this year for repayments, plus a further US $1 billion to bolster the country’s reserves.
He further mentioned that Debt restructuring has begun following the appointment of financial and legal advisors. also he stated that the relatioship with Japan had broken down and they are panning t to rebuild. Conversation with IMF will come to an end this month end(June) in a positive note.
He also stated Priority is given to overcome the food scarcity by securing fertiliser and compiling a food security program. In the event of any excess crops, those would be provided to vulnerable groups at a concessionary rate.
He had also met with all island three-wheeler association and petrol shed owners association to thank them in person and to hear their requirements. in this discussion three-wheeer association stated to provide them with electric three-wheelers and solar powered charging stations for a efficient economy.
