Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is the first time since the coronation in 2019 that Emperor and Empress Naruhito have embarked on an official visit to Indonesia.
Indonesia is considered an economic powerhouse in the Southeast Asian region. The Emperor and Empress will remain in Indonesia until the 23rd. They will meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace.
Japan occupied Indonesia during World War II. It has been for three years. The emperor and empress were also said to be attending a military commemoration for Japanese and Indonesian soldiers who died in World War II. (Reuters)
