Mizukoshi Hideaki, the Japanese ambassador to Sri Lanka, stated that Japan is prepared to continue supporting Sri Lanka while fostering bilateral connections, for Sri Lanka’s economic program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as for the nation’s development initiatives.
These comments were delivered yesterday at a meeting between the Japanese ambassador and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the President’s House in Colombo (01).
Mizukoshi Hideaki said that ongoing efforts will be made to further improve the country’s ties with Sri Lanka on the social, cultural, and economic fronts.
The help that Japan has given to Sri Lanka has received the President Rajapaksa’s sincere gratitude.
In the meanwhile, Kotaro Katusuki, the deputy head of mission at the Japanese Embassy in Colombo, has refuted recent media claims that the Japanese ambassador, Mizukoshi Hideaki, had said that Japan will not back Sri Lanka.
According to sources, Katusuki has told Saman Dissanayake, the secretary to the prime minister, that the Japanese ambassador has not stated as much. He said that the relevant report had no foundation at all.
