An illegal counterfeit foreign liquor distillery, operated by a Singaporean national, was raided by the Biyagama Excise Special Operations Unit following intelligence provided by the Army Intelligence. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals involved in the illegal activities.
The distillery, which had been operating for an extended period in a house in the Mahara Kadawata area, was uncovered through information provided by the Military Intelligence Corps. Upon receiving the information, the Biyagama Excise Special Operations Unit swiftly raided the location, arresting the two individuals involved in the operation, along with the equipment and materials used in the production of the counterfeit alcohol on 27 August 2024.
During the raid, authorities seized 54 bottles of counterfeit foreign whiskey, two machines used for sealing bottles, and a substantial quantity of materials and equipment employed in the production of the counterfeit alcohol. The arrested individuals are currently in custody, and further investigations are being conducted by the Biyagama Excise Special Operations Unit.
