This is the second agreement with a national university to boost the Sri Lankan ICT industry.

Huawei, a world-leading brand in ICT infrastructure and smart device manufacturing, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura with the aim of building and nurturing local ICT talent. Through this, university students will have the opportunity to get training in the field of information technology, and Huawei also expects to establish a Huawei ICT Academy and a joint innovation lab on the university campus. This agreement will contribute to the building of the local technical skill system and the development of Sri Lanka’s ICT industry.

The MoU was signed by Huawei Sri Lanka CEO Tao Guangyao and University of Sri Jayawardenepura Vice Chancellor Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage. Representing the university on this occasion were the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Dr. Thilaksiri Bandara, Registrar Mr. Anuruddha Welivita, former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Dr. Akila Subasingha, HoD, Dr. Nishan Dharmaweera of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Dr. Chamitha De Alwis, Dr. Randima Dinalankara of Computer Engineering Department, Senior Lecturer of Computer Engineering Department Mr. Udaya Wijenayake, Lecturer of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department Mr. Sandun Wijayaratne and Deputy Principal representing Huawei Executive Officer Liam Nixiaopeng, Director Enterprise Solutions Nadun Gunawardena and Engineer Supun Induruwa participated.

The Joint Innovation Lab, proposed to be built in collaboration with the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, will provide more developed facilities for graduate research and provide opportunities to develop solutions and products for industrial needs and organize certification courses in advanced ICT technologies. Commenting on this, the Vice-Chancellor of Sri Jayawardenepura University, Mr. Sudantha Liyanage has said the following. “I see the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, one of the largest universities in Sri Lanka, as an ideal place to empower Sri Lankan youth with skills and knowledge in the field of ICT. As we collaborate with world-leading technology companies such as Huawei, these types of collaboration agreements enable us to provide Sri Lankan university students with the necessary exposure to best technology practices and global experience in line with rapidly changing technologies”.
