The Horana Chief Magistrate’s Court today (08) directed the bank manager of a state bank in Horana to submit a detailed report to police on the bank’s financial administration procedures in relation to ongoing investigations into the Rs. 35 million robbery at the bank on June 3.

Chief Magistrate Lakmini Widanagamage issued the order following a request by police, who stated that a review of the bank’s formal financial processes was necessary to advance the investigation.

The bank manager has since agreed to provide the required documentation to investigators.

Meanwhile, police have produced before court Rs. 1,747,000 in cash, along with the bag used to conceal it, which was recovered during the investigation. The money was reportedly hidden by the suspect between an iron rack and a wall inside the bank premises.

The Western North Crimes Division informed court of the developments.

Earlier, a six-day detention order was issued on the Assistant Manager of the state bank who was arrested in connection with the theft.
Meanwhile, the security guard who was also arrested over the incident was remanded until June 11.

On June 3 at around 2:55 p.m., a bank employee was carrying two bags of cash through the rear entrance of the bank when an individual allegedly arrived, forcibly snatched the cash bags, and fled the area.

The stolen cash amounted to Rs. 35 million, was being transported for deposit into the automated teller machines (ATMs) of the respective bank.

An assistant manager and a security officer of the state bank were arrested in connection with the robbery two days later.
