The Prime Minister and the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has stressed the importance of data-driven decision-making in creating an education system that ensures equal opportunities for all students across Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the official launch of the first phase of the Human Resources Module of the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) and the pilot project of the e-Thaksalawa Learning Management System (LMS) at Temple Trees, the Prime Minister said that accurate data, effective policies, and technological support are essential to improving the quality of education nationwide.

The NEMIS platform has been introduced to enhance human resource management and administrative efficiency within the education sector. While provincial education authorities previously operated separate information systems, the new platform will integrate data from both national and provincial schools into a single network.

The first phase of the project will facilitate teacher transfers in the Sabaragamuwa, Western, Southern, and North Western provinces. Authorities plan to expand the system island-wide and include all academic staff in future phases. The platform is also expected to improve transparency and efficiency in teacher recruitment, transfers, and promotions.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya also highlighted digitalization as a key component in delivering transparent and efficient public services. However, she emphasized that technology is not intended to replace teachers but to strengthen and support their role in the education process.

The Prime Minister noted that the e-Thaksalawa Learning Management System will enhance teaching, learning, and student assessment while providing greater access to quality educational resources for underprivileged schools and expanding opportunities for children with special educational needs.

The initiative was implemented through the joint efforts of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Task Force for Digital Transformation in Education, provincial education authorities, and the Sri Lanka Air Force.
