Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera said that last December, public sector employees’ salaries were paid with the money from the sale of urea fertilizer.
The Minister said that the Agricultural Development Department has earned an amount of 10.05 billion rupees by selling urea fertilizers and other fertilizers in the previous Yala season and this “Maha” season.
Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera said that the money received was sent directly to the Treasury and last December, the government had to use a significant part of that money to pay the due salaries of government employees.
The minister revealed these facts in a discussion held at the Ministry of Agriculture. The minister said this in a review meeting on the agricultural projects carried out using the funds allocated in the budget document for the year 2023. (Lankadeepa)
