According to the Disaster Management Center, 21,888 people belonging to 5,212 families in 11 districts have been affected due to heavy rains, strong winds and lightning accidents that have affected many parts of the island for several days. 4 deaths have also been reported due to the disaster.
Among these, 264 people belonging to 64 displaced families are detained in 4 safe places, the centre also states. The people of Hambantota, Galle, Trincomalee, Kilinochchi, Gampaha, Colombo, Kalutara, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Puttalam and Kandy districts have been affected.
Assistant Director (Media) Pradeep Kodippili said that 117 houses were partially damaged and 2 more houses were completely destroyed due to this disaster.
Mr Kodippili said that the Gampaha district has been the most affected and 19,585 people belonging to 4,608 families in that district have been affected.
