It is reported that Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has been found guilty by the Colombo High Court today in a case filed against him for threatening a businessman in connection with a land transaction.
Following the decision, the Colombo High Court sentenced the Minister to two years imprisonment suspended for five years and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 25 million.
The High Court Judge has also ordered the acquittal and release of the wife of the Minister, Morin Ranatunga, who had earlier been charged in connection with the incident.
During his tenure as the Chief Minister of the Western Province, he was accused of threatening Gihan Mendis, a businessman, to give the necessary approval for the filling of a swamp in the Meethotamulla area and to remove the unauthorized occupants there for Rs. 64 million.
