The insurance board has taken steps to distribute 389 million rupees among the farmers from today (19) as the first phase of compensation to the farmers who suffered crop damage in the yala season.
Accordingly, it is said that the compensation to 250 farmers will be done under the leadership of Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
Last crop season, 65,000 acres were damaged by drought, and 11,000 acres of paddy fields that were about to be harvested were destroyed due to the subsequent rains.
