A millionaire businessman is under investigation by the police for allegedly hiring a hit men to assassinate a funeral home owner in Middeniya.
The businessman reportedly gave the contract to an Army deserter for Rs. two million, according to information obtained by the police.
On June 26 of last year, the murder occurred in Middeniya. The funeral home’s owner, Pratabhath Manju, was shot and murdered as he opened his business in the morning. He had been shot with a T-56 rifle by two persons who had arrived in a vehicle.
The Middeniya Police and other special police units who looked into this matter found that the gunman had arrived at the incident in a Wagon R rental from Tangalle.
Additionally, it was discovered throughout the inquiry that the gunman was an Army deserter who had fled the scene of the crime. According to investigations, the billionaire businessman awarded the contract because of a family conflict involving his daughter.
