Doctors in all government hospitals will stage a 24-hour token strike starting from 8.00 a.m. today (April 2), the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) announced. Six Sri Lankan fishermen who were held in Bangladeshi custody for six months have been released by the government of Bangladesh. According to the Ministry of Fisheries, the fishermen are scheduled to return to Sri Lanka tomorrow morning (April 2). The group had set sail on July 16, 2025, aboard the multi-day fishing vessel ‘Sudu Duwa 4’ and were subsequently apprehended by the Bangladesh Navy on charges of violating maritime boundaries. Following their arrest, the fishermen were detained at the Chittagong central jail in Bangladesh while legal proceedings were conducted. The Ministry of Fisheries further stated that the release was made possible through successful…

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) reports that 175,661 tourists arrived in the country during the first 29 days of March.According to the latest data, 45,650 tourists arrived from India during this period, accounting for 26% of the total arrivals.
