Colombo, August 13 (Daily Mirror) – The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has issued a Telecommunications Service Provider License under Section 17B of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act No. 25 of 1991 as amended, to Starlink Lanka (Private) Limited for the provision of Satellite Broadband Services in Sri Lanka.This license will be effective from 12th August 2024.
Based on information provided by the Military Intelligence Corps, two individuals were apprehended in Jaffna with 156.4 kg of Kerala cannabis valued at Rs. 420 lakhs by officials of the Police Narcotics Division in Mannar on 12 August 2024, following long-term investigations conducted by Military Intelligence Corps.The arrested suspects, aged 39 and 44, are residents of the Jaffna and Kilinochchi areas. Following their arrest, both the suspects and the seized contraband were handed over to the Jaffna Police, who are now conducting further investigations of the case.

A fire that erupted aboard the vessel MV “MSC CAPETOWN III”, a container vessel berthed at Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) of the Port of Colombo, has been doused, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) said. According to the SLPA, swift and coordinated action by staff at the port successfully averted a potential disaster. The National Election Commission has reported 17 new complaints related to the presidential election within the past 24 hours. Of these, 11 complaints were lodged with the District Election Complaints Management Center, while the remaining 6 were reported to the National Election Complaints Management Center.Since July 31, a total of 337 election-related complaints have been recorded. The complaints cover a range of issues.In addition, the police operations room has received 9 complaints related to the presidential election.According to the Police Media Division, 4 of these complaints pertain to violations of election laws, while 5 involve acts of violence.
