The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has issued a statement regarding the media reports that a request has been made to give 100,000 monkeys to China.

Accordingly, China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the main government department that oversees and manages the import and export of wild animals and plants, has said it is unaware of such a request.

The Chinese Embassy points out that as a party to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), China has already adopted the Wildlife Protection Law with several amendments in 1988.

Below is the Twitter message issued by the Chinese Embassy.
