In order to apprehend the individual who illegally stole Rs. 250,000 from the bank account of a woman, a widowed mother of two, the Anuradhapura Police launched an inquiry.
The woman who was involved in an accident and lost both her hand and her spouse posted a request for financial support to raise her children on Facebook, according to the police.
She was given some financial support in return, but one day she received a call asking for the phone number to which she had received SMS notifications about the use of her bank account in order to make a deposit.
She provided him her phone number, and he subsequently phoned to see if she had received a verification code on her handset. She continued, telling him that she had obtained such a number. She afterwards discovered that he had taken Rs. 250,000 out of her account. The situation is being looked into by the police.
