Chairman of the Election Commission Nimal G. Punchihewa says that the power to announce the date of the local government election will be transferred to his commission in the future.
Nimal G Punchihewa mentioned that the official period of the local government bodies has been extended by one year and that period will end on March 25 next year.
Accordingly, he further stated that the Election Commission will have the power to announce the date of the election after September 20.
