The Criminal Investigation Department says that a staff sergeant has been arrested for a fraud of 180 lakh rupees allegedly committed in the payroll department of the Sri Lanka Army.
According to a complaint received, the suspected staff sergeant was arrested after an investigation conducted by the Commercial Crime Investigation Division 1 of the Criminal Investigation Department. The suspect is charged with breach of trust, fraud and misappropriation.
The police state that the offences under Sections 386, 389, 400, and 457 of the Penal Code Act and 5 (1)(2) of the Offenses on Public Property Act No. 12 of 1982 as amended by Act No. 28 of 1999. The arrested suspect Staff Sgt. Kiriwatthuduwa, 39, is a resident of Pitipana South. (Lankadeepa)
