Sri Lanka’s apparel exports during the period from January to May of this year are US$ 1843.3 million, which is a decrease of 16.5% compared to January and May of last year, according to Central Bank data reports.
It is stated in the data reports that from January to May of last year, Sri Lanka earned 2206.6 million US dollars from the export of garments. The report indicated that due to the downturn in the global economy, Sri Lanka’s garment export earnings decreased by 14.2 % in May this year.
In comparison to the first 5 months of last year, textile export income has also decreased by 3.1 % and other finished textile materials have decreased by 19 % in the first 5 months of this year, according to the report. (Lankadeepa)
