President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake has planned to issue a series of guidelines regarding how government officials should act when they go to COPE, COPA and other parliamentary committees. The President’s Secretary has taken this decision after taking into account the complaints received from the chairpersons of the parliamentary committees and the answers given by the officers when asking for excuses.
Saman Ekanayake, the President’s Secretary, has received complaints from the COPE and COPA committees saying that many of the officials who come to these committees do not come properly prepared. The chairpersons of the committees have informed the President’s Secretary that the committee’s time is being wasted because the chief secretaries including the ministry secretaries do not participate in the audit committee of the relevant institutions and come to the parliamentary committee without studying the Auditor General’s notifications.
When the President’s Secretary inquired about this from the secretaries of the relevant ministries, they complained that the officials are being inconvenienced because the parliamentarians are being questioned by Lilawen who is hearing cases and then releasing them to the media. Accordingly, the President’s Secretary has planned to prepare a series of guidelines in such a way that it will not be a problem for both parties and in the future, after preparing it, it will be forwarded to all the Ministry Secretaries.
