The Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe requested yesterday (11th) from the ICC delegation including Imran Khawaja, Vice President of the International Cricket Council, to “respect the law of our country just as we respect the International Cricket Council”.
The minister mentioned this when the delegation led by International Cricket Council Vice President Imran Khawaja met the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe at the Ministry of Sports yesterday evening to find out if there has been any political interference in the Sri Lanka Cricket administration.
This delegation also met the officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute yesterday evening and after holding discussions with them, arrangements were made to meet the Sports Minister yesterday. The minister has also stated in front of the delegation that he will give his support to do the right thing with Sri Lanka Cricket.
The minister who had shown before the relevant delegation how the Sri Lankan cricket team, which was at the top of the world, has collapsed to the point of facing the selection matches to compete again for the World Cup, said that it is the responsibility of all those associated with Sri Lankan cricket to rise again from that situation.
The Minister who reminded the Parliament and the people that he is responsible for Sri Lanka Cricket as the Minister in charge of the subject has also explained how to work with all parties in the future with a correct plan. For this discussion, International Cricket Council’s Strategic Senior Manager Ammar Shaikh, Sports Director General A. Muthumala, President’s lawyer Dinal Philip, lawyer Panduka Keerthinanda and former veteran cricketer Sidath Wettamuni were also present. (Direct quote: Divaina)
