The Ministry of Agriculture says that it is planned to provide all the insecticides and herbicides required for rice cultivation during the maha kannaya to the farmers through the Farmers’ Service Centers.
It is said that there has been an agreement for the program in a discussion held between all the private institutions that distribute insecticides and herbicides and the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera.
Accordingly, the Department of Agricultural Development will purchase the insecticides and herbicides required for paddy and other crops from the private sector with the Department of Agricultural Development funds.
It is stated that according to the discounts given by those companies, all insecticides and herbicides will be sold to the farmers by agricultural service centres at a 5 or 6 percent price reduction.
