In the words of Janitha Abeywickrama Liyanage, the ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, an agreement has been struck with Rosatom, a major player in Russia’s nuclear energy industry, to develop a nuclear power plant in Sri Lanka.
According to Mrs Abeywickrama, this nuclear power station would increase Sri Lanka’s electrical grid’s capacity by 300 megawatts. According to Mrs Abeywickrama, Sri Lanka’s energy situation would be permanently resolved with the building of a nuclear power plant.
The International Atomic Energy Agency will also investigate this subject, according to Mrs Abeywickrama, who has suggested that building work will begin when this plan receives cabinet approval. (Lankadeepa)
