The World Health Organization says Gaza urgently needs a cease-fire to curb the spread of a new strain of poliovirus among helpless Palestinians amid Israeli attacks.
On July 20, the World Health Organization first expressed fear that this type of polio virus was found in waste samples taken from the Gaza Strip. The World Health Organization has named this new strain as ‘VDPV2’. This is said to be more dangerous than the common poliovirus.
A statement issued by the World Health Organization says that if a ceasefire is established soon, its health officials and doctors can go to the Gaza Strip and resume the administration of weakened polio vaccines to young children. (AFP)
