A Sri Lankan engineer working as an electrical engineer in Dubai has produced a new device to prevent damage caused by monkeys. This new device has been manufactured by Engineer Manatunga Sheran Deepthi Jivakantha Silva and the Lunuwila National Coconut Research Institute is currently conducting a pilot project to test the success of this device.
Mr Manatunga, who commented on the new device produced to prevent the damage caused by monkeys, said: The monkey repellent device was produced at the request of the Salt Lake National Coconut Research Institute. Earlier I made a device that repels wild elephants. They must have seen it and requested to produce a device to drive away monkeys. More than 30% of the coconut plantations in Sri Lanka are destroyed by monkeys. So they made a request to manufacture a device to drive away them. Accordingly, I conducted research and produced a device for it.’ (Lankadeepa)
