Thushen Silva of Maris Stella College won a silver medal for Sri Lanka in the 5th Asian Youth Athletics Championship being held in Uzbekistan yesterday (27th).
In the boys’ pole vault, he cleared 4.70m to win the medal, a personal best as well as a junior national record.
It was after 72 years that a Sri Lankan player managed to win a pole vault medal in an Asian level tournament and M. A. Akbar won it in 1951. (Divaina)
