Member of Parliament Patali Champika Ranawaka has sent a letter to the Sri Lankan office of the International Monetary Fund asking whether the fuel price formula and the increase in the electricity bill are in accordance with the criteria of the International Monetary Fund.
He has indicated in the relevant letter that the economy and the people are feeling the consequences of stabilizing the Treasury, State Banks and Central Bank, Oil Corporation and Ceylon Electricity Board as separate units instead of joint financial stabilization.
He has mentioned that the fuel and electricity system with unrealistic taxes is definitely responsible for the collapse of the economy in the future and it cannot be avoided that the responsibility is placed on the International Monetary Fund.
In his letter, he further states that there is a high possibility that the entire debt stabilization program of Sri Lanka will be disrupted due to public opposition.
