Tharushi Karunaratne became the first Sri Lankan athlete to win a gold medal in the women’s 800m event at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships yesterday (05) in South Korea. The time recorded by her was 2.05.64 minutes.
She also managed to win the silver medal in the 400 meters event held yesterday. After that, the Sri Lankan athletes managed to win the gold medal in the 400m mixed relay race held yesterday and Tarushi Karunaratne managed to become a winning member of that race as well. This is the first time that Sri Lanka has won a gold medal in the 400m mixed relay event. (Divaina)
